Liam "Coach Red" McDonald: Coach Red began the Rink Rat programs in 2001. Each year sessions were further developed and improved as well as many new programs were added. Coach Red is a USA Hockey Master Level 5 Certified Coach and has been coaching in the Lakeville Hockey Association since 2000. Since starting coaching in the LHA he has coached 12 Mite teams, 4 Squirt teams, 5 Pee Wee teams, 3 Bantam teams as well as 2 U10 teams. Last season he was appointed to the Lakeville South High School Girls coaching staff and is looking forward to next season as the South girls made it to the State Tourney and only lost 3 seniors and only had 2 Juniors!!!. Coach Red played at Richfield High School ‘84, Vermilion Community College (Ely) ‘86 and Concordia College, Moorhead ‘88 (Member of the MIAC Championship team in 86-87). After graduating from Concordia, he was on their coaching staff for one year and has been coaching youth hockey ever since. His passion for the game is obvious and he does an amazing job interacting with players of all levels. |

The Lakeville Hockey Association has planned an NHL Alumni -vs- LHA Coaches game and party for 5:45 PM, SaturdayMarch 6, 2010 at Hasse Arena. The LHA is putting together a skilled “Coaches” team (college playing experience is aminimum!) to challenge the former NHL players. Tickets to see the game will cost each person mere $10. A ticket buyseach person a couple hours of entertainment, 2 beverages of your choice at Babe’s, an autograph signing, andappetizers at Babe’s after the game. What a huge bargain! The autograph session with the former NHL stars will be held at Hasse after the game so that the kids can participate. Thealumni roster is still in the process of being finalized. David Jensen, Tom Chorske, Joe Dziedzic, and Brad Maxwell havealready committed. Babes will be serving appetizers and will honor the drink tickets after the game, at approximately 8:00PM. Members will have the opportunity to socialize “outside the rink.” We invite each family to come to the game, and theadults to come to Babe’s afterwards for a social with our LHA players and also the NHL Alumni. This will be a greatopportunity to meet other LHA members and to meet many LHA board members.
The NHL Alumni plan on donating back a good share of their proceeds from the event. The donation will occur in the fallof the 2010 hockey season. Possible avenues for their donations include LHA scholarships, equipment donations for thosein need, or general association contributions. The Alumni are also donating an autographed Gordy Howe Jersey to be put upfor silent auction. Tickets will be available for purchase in the Ames concession stand in February. Please mark your calendars for this funevent that will generate so many charitable donations.
